You are asked to consider joining a research study. The study's purpose is to learn more about what parents, guardians, and family members of kids with hearing loss think of how hearing loss is portrayed in children's literature. If you join the study, you'll be asked to complete a survey about your thoughts on the quality and inclusivity of children's literature depictions of hearing loss and characters with hearing loss. The survey includes 21 questions and should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. You can take the survey using any device that has online access (phone, tablet, computer, etc.). Survey responses are anonymous. We will not collect any information that identifies you.

We will keep the survey responses confidential and stored in a secure database. The UAMS Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other institutional oversight offices may review the information we collect, to make sure we are doing the research correctly.

It's entirely up to you whether or not to join this research study. Nothing about your ability to get care from UAMS will change no matter what you decide. You can decide not to participate in the study even after you have started the survey. Simply do not submit the electronic survey to us. We don't expect you to benefit directly from your participation. However, what we learn from the research may help patients, families, and care providers in the future.

For questions or concerns please contact: Dr. Charia Hall, Au.D., CCC-A (principal investigator) via email at chall@uams.edu or the UAMS IRB office at IRB@uams.edu
